Ravenna is a city of the Emilia-Romagna of 151.055 inhabitants, chief town of the homonym province, greater city and historically more important among the cities of Emilia Romagna. Its  territory is for extension the second in Italy (the first being the one of Rome).
The city is situated in the hinterland but it is connected to the Adriatic Sea from the navigable channel Candiano. The connections are guaranteed, other than that from the railroad and from the highway.
The nearest commercial airport to the city is the airport of Forlì.
Ravenna is the city that was capital three times: before the empire Romano of west, subsequently of the Kingdom of the Ostrogotis and the Byzantine Esarcato. Currently it is the chief town of the homonym province.
Installation of remote age, the etymology derives from a prelatino "* rava", that designated an in origin "precipice produced by water that it flows" and subsequently "channel, swamp, bassura, mud", united to a suffix "- enna", of origin etrusca.

•    Mausoleum of Teodorico (520 around)
•    Basilica of St. Vitale (first halves the You century)
•    Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Class (consecrated in 547)
